The Jason Russell House was the site of the bloodiest fighting during the first day of the Revolutionary War, April 19, 1775. Today it and the adjoining Smith Museum hold collections of the Arlington Historical Society.
George Y. WellingtonGeorge Y. Wellington was the founder and second President of The Arlington Historical Society. Born at the Dr. Timothy Wellington House (today's number 86 Pleasant Street), his many decades of public service began when, in his teens, he worked to bring the steam railroad to town. A successful insurance agent, Wellington resided from 1874 onwards in the Gothic Revival "Joseph Potter Cottage" at 16 Maple Street. It is one of Arlington's most architecturally significant homes, and the association with Wellington enhances its tremendous value. |
