The Jason Russell House was the site of the bloodiest fighting during the first day of the Revolutionary War, April 19, 1775. Today it and the adjoining Smith Museum hold collections of the Arlington Historical Society.

Driving

The Jason Russell House and Smith Museum are easily reached by automobile. From outside Boston take I-95 to Exit 29A, Route 2 East. Proceed on Route 2 to exit 59A, Pleasant Street. (Do not take the first Pleasant street exit, which is in Lexington.) Turn left onto Pleasant Street. At Massachusetts Ave, turn left heading west toward Lexington. Turn left at Jason Street. Parking is located on Jason Street or take the next right onto Jason Terrace. Our parking lot is located behind the Smith Museum.

Public Transit

Public transit offers several choices to bring you to our door. The MBTA's bus routes 67, 77, 79, 80, 87, and 350 all stop at Arlington Center. Many of these busses can be caught at the Red line station at Harvard or Alewife. Get off the bus in Arlington Center opposite the Town Hall and walk one block west on Massachusetts Avenue to Jason Street.

Access

A ramp provides wheelchair and stroller access to the Smith Museum and the ground floor of the Jason Russell House.
